wondering whats a good natural insect reppelent for greens.....tried spraying tobacco leaf mixture with not much success,,,,any hints

I just moved to Kansas City Mo from Austin Texas. I can tell you that to grow things in rock and clay you have to go with what likes that kind of environment.

I would look to what grows in Mexico well. Mangos, Prickly Pear Cactus, rosemary, Mexican Oregano, yellow squash...etc. I had those things growing like crazy in my yard in Austin without much care.

But in AZ you will no doubt have to have a compost pile and add organic material into soil. You may have to have raised beds with rocks around them. Collect rain water when it does rain, and try to use drought resistant plants that are also beautiful for the landscape.
