I live in Arizona and have desert landscaping..how do I do an organic garden here?

I do not have a green thumb, but want to start an organic garden in our backyard. I live in Arizona and our soil is terrible. I've been thinking about doing an above ground garden, but need assistance on everything from soil to planting, to size, etc. Where do I start?

Ok well think of what you can eat in the desert without much water. Prickly Pear cactus might be a nice way to start. Rosemary, Mexican Oregano, Aloe Vera. I would start small and not set yourself up for failure until you know what you have to do with the soil. You might even think of doing one of those living walls or roofs ... try this website
